Tutorial: Using Pocket Frames in Canva

Good morning friends! I have a special treat for you this fine Saturday morning! I have had many memory keepers DM me recently asking how to use the PNG overlays that are included the Pocket Frame Kits in Canva! Well, I asked my friend Kim Hurst of Paper Crush Design to do a quick video tutorial for you!

Kim is the Queen of Canva when it comes to using the software/app for memory keeping. Check out her Album Project Class that is still open for enrollment!

The Pocket Frames Kim uses in the video are from the 2022 iNSD Blog Hop. You can download them for free here and follow along!

And while we are on the topic of Pocket Frames, I just released new 4x6 CIRCLE Pocket Frames in the shop yesterday!!!! Who doesn't love a round photo on their layouts once in a while?

The templates in this collection have placeholders for 1 to 3 photos, with easy-to-use clipping masks and text boxes to tell your story. Use your favorite mobile app or desktop program that can support layers and clipping masks to use the PSD files in this kit! (i.e.: Affinity Photo for iPad, Photoshop, Photoshop Elements).

Circle Pocket Frames No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 are available individually. There is a also a bundled option! When you purchase all three Circle Pocket Frame Kits, you receive 6 Scalloped Border Frames for FREE!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Type Talk Is Open For Registration!

PNG image-0E7A1289622B-1

I am so excited to announce that my new class, Type Talk, is now open for registration!

Want to give the blocks of journaling on your pages a more polished + professional look? Do you enjoy using text to create your own pocket-style filler card or word art embellishments, but feel they "are just missing missing something?" Want to get creative with page titles? If so, Type Talk will help you start designing like a pro!

Type Talk is unlike any other class I have taught in the past. I will be doing an Instagram Live at 12:00 pm EST today to talk all about it. It will be recorded if you can't make it, but here are a few things you will need to know:

  • Registration for class begins today, May 13, 2022 and will close Monday, June 6. Class begins on Friday, June 10. Class content will be released each Friday by 10:00 am EST for three weeks.
  • Lessons in Type Talk will be recorded using Affinity Photo for iPad. BUT if you are comfortable using a Text Tool in software/mobile apps such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Affinity Designer, Canva, GoDaddy Studio, etc., you can easily apply the tips and techniques taught in Type Talk in any of those mentioned software/mobile apps mentioned.
  • Students in class will be given assignments! Class participants will be creating a variety of pocket-style filler cards and word art embellishments. I will then collect all the cards/embellishments and combine them into a large class kit to be distributed amongst the students! How cool is that???
  • These assignments are not difficult. However, I am giving students one week extra (through July 8) to complete them. Students must complete the assignments in order to receive the collaborative class kit.
  • This class will run again in October 2022 and again in February or March of 2023.
  • Type Talk is not being hosted on the same platform as my other classes. So do not be alarmed if things look a little different when you go to register! Your other classes are just fine–they are not going anywhere! I just wanted to try out this other platform!

I will be releasing more info and how you can register very soon Type Talk very soon! Be sure to follow me on Facebook and Instagram so you don’t miss out!

Have a great weekend everyone! Oh! BTW-here is the Pocket Frame Tutorial:

I cannot believe it is already May. People are always saying "The older you get, the faster time flies," and that is soooo true!!! I sometimes wish the calendar months had a "pause button" so we can slow down and savor the moments. But I guess that is why we scrapbook right? Today I am sharing Chapter Four of my Twenty22 Family Yearbook!

Photos and stories from April are documented in four spreads with a title page and an end page for my "film adaptation" video QR code.

The pages were created on my iPad Pro using the following products and mobile apps:

Before we get into my April pages, I wanted to let you know about some things happening here for {inter}National Scrapbook Day this weekend! Pixels to Pages will be participating in a iNSD Blog Hop with a bunch of other indie digital scrapbook designers! I'm super excited about it! So keep an eye out on my Instagram and Facebook pages on Friday!!! All of the designers participating will have a fun freebie on their blogs for you to download. And, if you were thinking about purchasing anything from the shop or enrolling in a class, wait until the weekend! I will have a few discount codes for you to take advantage of!!!

Okay-keep scrolling and reading to see how Chapter four came together:

Title Page

Title page was created by using the Design W template in the Project Life app. One of the title cards from the Chapters of April kit was placed in the center placeholder. Other placeholders were filled with the white card found in the Neutral Kit in the app. Shadows were turned off on this page.

Spread One

In the spread above you can see the 6x12 Calendar Card from the April Edition of the Chapters Collection. This is placed in the Big Shot A Template from the Project Life app and I will ALWAYS use this template on the left hand side of the first spread for each month. The filler and journal cards are all from the April Edition of the Chapters Collection as well. The Kentucky Derby graphic is part of the invitation I created for our party. I placed it in one of the Pocket Frames from the 4x6 Pocket Frames No. 1 kit.

Spread Two

Check out my garden tower! I just love watching it come to life! It fills out more and more everyday! The filler cards and the journal cards with the droplets on them are from this month's kit. I made the two journal cards with the pink border right in the Project Life App using the dark pink textured paper from the April Chapters kit. If you haven't seen it yet, I do have a tutorial on how you can make your own cards in the Project Life app and will share it at the end of this post!

Spread Three

All journal/title cards were made in the Project Life App using the White Weathered Wood patterned paper from this month's kit! I am loving the photos from our Easter morning walk. I have this thing for driftwood. Although the photos aren't of actual driftwood, the roots and dead tree reminded me of it. I just love the texture and color!

Spread Four

Weekend with the girls is always so much fun, aren't they? I love the way this spread turned out! Those Pocket Frames really come in handy! They help to add extra photos and journaling on your pages! The journal card with the orange border at the bottom was made in the Project Life App. The "friends" filler card was created in the Affinity Photo for iPad app. Typography is a passion of mine and I love finding ways to use it in my pages. I have a new class, Type Talk, coming to the Pixels to Pages Classroom in June! Next week I will be sharing more information about it and how you can register!!!

For the most part I am happy with the way my spreads turned out for April. The one thing that bothers me, however, is that I don't have that "line" that connects the right side and the left side of the pages together. I talk about this a lot in my Memories Matter Class and Memories Matter Project Life Design Series Courses! But I am not too concerned about it because I try to have a repeating pattern or color from my journal/filler cards on each side of the spread to connect the pages together!

Final Page

Feel free to scan the QR Code. It's just a 45-second clip of daily video I took using the 1 Second Everyday App. I may have missed one or two days in April, but I'm not going to stress about it! I love experimenting with video!

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this post! Feel free to leave any comments or questions you may have below! The May Edition of Chapters will be released around May 15th!

I have share the tutorials below in the past, but if you are new here and looking for instruction on how to create your own journal cards in the Project Life App check out the video below! I am also including the video on how to use the Pocket Frames in the Affinity Photo for iPad App as well!

Thank you for taking the time to read! See you back here on Friday!
