October Captured: Day 1

Whimsical pumpkin house with orange tree on textured gray background. "October Captured" text below. Cozy and autumn-themed.

Throughout the month of October, I will be creating a simple, 6x8 album celebrating the fall season. The photos + stories in this "October Captured" album will follow the prompts from my Photo-A-Day Idea sheet. You can download the idea sheet in this blog post. These pages will be simple, using the October Captured book template and October Captured Digital Kit I created for students enrolled in the S.L.A.P. Masterclass.

Title Page

Pumpkin house with fall leaves; text reads "October Captured." Cozy autumn scene on a textured gray background.

I never thought I would say this, but I'm in this watercolor phase right now (I've been experimenting with it at home). The majority of the artwork for this kit was not my own, but curated from a variety of commercial use kits by different watercolor digital artists. I absolutely love the little pumpkin roof on the house. It's so sweet.

October 1 | Photo Prompt: A warm beverage

A frothy coffee with cinnamon in a green textured mug sits on a plaid surface. Nearby, a small pumpkin and foliage create an autumnal vibe.

Of course, today’s photo and story are all about my morning coffee and the little “ritual”—if you can call it that—of making it. But honestly, it’s not just about the coffee; it’s about the mug. We all have our favorites, don’t we? This one is new to me, picked up on our recent camping trip to Brevard, NC (near Asheville). I just love the artisan community there—they are my people. Handmade pottery is such a big part of the area, and I’m drawn to the colors, textures, and organic shapes. When I spotted this mug from MK Clayworks, I knew it had to come home with me. Since our return, it’s been holding my morning coffee and my evening bedtime tea, and I couldn’t be happier about it.

What about you? Do you have a favorite mug? I'm sure you do!
