Throughout the month of October I will be creating a 6x8 album celebrating the fall season in Affinity Publisher for iPad. The photos + stories in this "October Captured" album will follow the prompts from my Photo-A-Day Idea sheet. You can download the idea sheet in this blog post. These pages will be simple, using the October Captured book template and October Captured Digital Kit I created for students enrolled in the S.L.A.P. Masterclass.
Today I’m sharing Days 8 and 9 from my October Captured album—two prompts that capture the view from where I am. For Day 8, the photo prompt was “A Window View,” and I turned my camera toward the window above my studio desk. It’s a spot I look out from every day, and it's always changing. For Day 9, the prompt “Autumn Skies” had me looking up again, this time during an early morning walk as the sun rose over the palm trees. Together, these two stories remind me to just pause. Pause and notice what’s right outside our window—or right above us—and be grateful for that particular moment in time.

I really like the simplicity of the spread. It is the same layout I used in Day 1. The page on the left is a Master Page from the October Captured Affinity Publisher template created for my S.L.A.P. Masterclass. The page on the right isn't a master page. It's just a simple text frame with a cute pumpkin rainbow illustration.

Again, using a master page from the same template mentioned above. "October Vibes" was a title included on the master page. It was orginally black, but I used a Color Overlay Effect to change it to white. The number 9 sticker is from the October Captured Kit included in the S.L.A.P. Masterclass.
I love the simplicity of this album so far. Documenting a daily photo and story during the month of October doesn't have to be hard or presented in overly creative spreads. I'm finding that by following the prompts, I am putting more thoughtful focus on stories behind the stories rather than selecting papers and embellishments, and I like that!
As I move through this month of daily prompts, I’m reminded how easy it is to overlook the everyday scenes that surround us. Whether it’s the view from my studio window or looking up at the sky during an early morning walk, these moments encourage me to pause, look closer, and appreciate the simple beauty woven into ordinary days. That’s what October Captured is all about—seeing the magic in the familiar.
