Michele Anderson

How long have you been memory keeping?

I started scrapbooking in 2000 shortly after adopting two children. Our oldest was about 2 and a half and our youngest was a couple months old. We had gone from zero children to a toddler and a newborn. I had a friend that was scrapbooking and she invited me over. I think at that time I just needed a couple hours out of the house. My obsession was born and quickly developed into weekly crops with friends to regularly attending crops at local scrapbook stores. Those crops turned into trips and even opportunities to teach at retreats.

My change to digital happened shortly after the Project Life app was released. We lived far from family and it was a great way for me to scrap in the car while we made the long drive home. I also had very active children and I was sitting at sports games and practices a lot and loved that I could scrapbook while I had downtime. Eventually, as more memory keeping apps were developed, I learned Studio (formally Over), Affinity, and recently Canva. I tend to choose the app based on when I am scrapbooking and the products I am going to use. I often start a project in one app and finish it in another.

For photo editing, I have found I like Lightroom Mobile best. I also occasionally go back to PicTapGo or A Color Story, but Lightroom Mobile is where I do most of my photo editing.

Are you strictly digital or do you create hybrid layouts?

I am strictly digital--with a side of hope for hybrid. When I was making the transition from physical to digital, I saved some of my very favorite items in hope that I would eventually incorporate them into a hybrid project. I'm not ready to get rid of them yet but I also haven't done the hybrid project. Maybe soon!

What is your most favorite album you've created?

I love the idea of a December album, but haven't ever gone full out to do a daily page during the month. December is my husband's busiests month at work and as a teacher I'm often trying to hold on for dear life. That said, I love December products and the joy I get from the December pages. The last few years to get that sense of excitement, I am going back through photos and creating a one page 6X8 spread of something special in that year. I don't stress about how many pages I get done and as long as I keep the general feel of the pages, I am free to use any product I wish. This December album showcases one page per year and when it is done I will have a highlight reel of life over the years. I did 6 pages the first year and last year I did 8. I've got a few more to go until I am ready to just add the new year, but I really enjoy the project.

What is your go-to snack to enjoy while scrapping?

How long have you been memory keeping?

I've been scrapbooking since about 2005 and went fully digital about 8/9 years ago, and as technology has developed, so have I.

What are your favorite apps to use for memory keeping?

I now mainly use Canva but it can sometimes have limitations so I go back to Affinity Photo and occasionally use the Project Life App.

Are you strictly digital or do you create hybrid layouts?

Digital all the way for me but it must then get printed into a book - I'm creating memories to share not store on a hard drive to be lost in time.

What is your most favorite album you've created?

I love all the albums I have created–they have been a labour of love–different styles tried and techniques mastered often thanks to you, Kelly (Very sweet, Dawn, thank you).

What is your go-to snack to enjoy while scrapping?

I don't tend to snack whilst scrapping I'm far too busy!

How long have you been memory keeping?

I have been scrapbooking for about 15 years now. I started out as a paper scrapper and quickly became overwhelmed with the amount of pictures I had and knew I needed to do something different if I ever wanted to be "caught up."

What are your favorite apps to use for memory keeping?

I primarily use the Project Life app but I am venturing into Canva more and more! I have to admit...when I first started app scrapping I was discouraged because of the simplicity of my layouts, but soon learned to love them once I realized how much easier it was to get pages done! I do digital scrapbooking (on my computer using a very old version of Artisan) and app scrapping. If I have a picture or two that I want to showcase, I will do a digital layout starting with a template in Artisan. If I have multiple pics from an event (holidays, sporting events, etc) I will do a simple pocket layout in the Project Life App.

Are you strictly digital or do you create hybrid layouts?

I am strictly digital now! (Is it bad to say that I dread pulling out my paper products!)

What is your most favorite album you've created?

My favorite albums are my son's school scrapbooks. I have two boys (one graduated in 2021 and one in 2022) and at their graduation parties I presented them both with their school scrapbooks from preschool until graduation! It was a labor of love!

What is your go-to snack to enjoy while scrapping?

I LOVE Smartfood White Cheddar popcorn or Goldfish crackers!

How long have you been memory keeping?

I have been scrapbooking since 1999 shortly before the birth of my second child. I started digital several years ago and haven’t looked back. Mobile apps make it so much easier.

What are your favorite apps to use for memory keeping?

My favorite memory keeping apps are project life, but I am becoming more proficient with affinity as well. I have dabbled in several different apps for memory keeping thanks to a class taught years ago by Kelly (I remember you being in those Art of the Apps classes!)

Are you strictly digital or do you create hybrid layouts?

I do both digital and paper scrapbooking including pocket style.

Describe your scrapbooking style:

I am a pretty clean/ simple scrapbooker but can step it up a notch when the occasion calls for it.

What is your most favorite album you've created?

My most favorite projects are the 50th anniversary albums I made for my parents and my husband’s parents. I have also enjoyed the many vacation albums created over the years. I also really enjoyed a thanksgiving recipe cookbook project I recently created. I have done December daily albums the past three years and am planning to go completely digital for 2024.

What is your go-to snack to enjoy while scrapping?

My go to snack while scrapbooking is a diet Mountain Dew and dark chocolate peanut M&Ms.

I love creating hybrid pages using apps such as the Project Life App, and Picmonkey.

My memory-keeping projects range from a yearly album with both pocketed pages, and traditional pages to mini albums, and holiday speciality albums.

What is your most favorite album you've created?

My favorite, and most loved project every single year is my Yearly Project Life Family Album.

What is your go-to snack to enjoy while scrapping?

There is nothing I love more than working on our family album, watching Friends, and having a little chocolate.
