October Captured: Days 10 + 11 + 12

Orange circle with "October Captured Days 10, 11, 12" text. Background shows blurred pages with dates and text. Warm, nostalgic tone.

Throughout the month of October I will be creating a 6x8 album celebrating the fall season in Affinity Publisher for iPad. The photos + stories in this "October Captured" album will follow the prompts from my Photo-A-Day Idea sheet. You can download the idea sheet in this blog post. These pages will be simple, using the October Captured book template and October Captured Digital Kit I created for students enrolled in the S.L.A.P. Masterclass.

There’s just something about October that makes every little routine feel more magical, isn't there? From the quiet moments with a cup of coffee, to twinkling porch lights that make me feel like I’m living in a Harry Potter movie, to finally admitting that I’d like to be a reader (but I’m easily distracted by all things creative!)—these past few days have been full of little joys. Here’s a peek at what I captured for Days 10, 11, and 12.

October 10 | Photo Prompt: Daily Routine

Number 10 on brown background; text: John 10:10 about life's fullness; grass field photo; "Remember This: Daily Routine" text below.

Both sides of the spread are Master Pages included in the October Capture Album template from the S.L.A.P. Masterclass. However, the place holders on left side are a reverse of the original master. If you are working in Affinity Publisher, whether on your iPad or desktop computer, and you want to change the Master layout on the page you have it applied to, be sure to "edit in detached mode" or else you won't be able to change anything! The image with the Bible verse on the page is actually from the YouVersion Bible App. Each day you the app presents the verse on an image or graphic, but you can go into the app and change the background if you'd like and even change the font. Then you can download it to your camera roll or share on social media.

October 11 | Photo Prompt: Daily Routine

Porch decorated with floating witch hats and candles. Railings are wrapped with orange-purple lights. Text reads "11 October" and a note.

On day 11 I added a white circle shape for the journal box and lowered the opacity to 50%. Then with the shape selected, I applied an text wrap with a .125 margin to it, so when I added the text frame, the story fit neatly inside the circle. I know it looks as though the text is center-justified, but it's actually right-justified so the right side is nice and straight alongside the edge of the circle and page!

Below are Days 10 + 11 side-by-side in their spread:

October-themed collage with text. Left shows Scripture, daily routine text, and grass. Right depicts porch with floating candles, witch hats, fairy lights.

October 12 | Photo Prompt: A stack of books

October 12 journal entry discusses reading habits. Below, a Kindle displays a library and book recommendations next to a floral cover.
I have no idea why this is uploading with a gray background! It's driving me crazy! Ha!

My husband, Chris, is the avid reader in our household. Our adult boys are as well. I'm so glad they inherited that gene from him. I am not an big reader at all. But I wish I was!!!

Whether it’s peaceful morning rituals, flickering candlelight, or curling up with a good book (or Kindle!), I love how October slows me down just enough to notice these simple, everyday stories. I'll be back on Wednesday (if not sooner!). Thanks for reading!
