October Captured: Days 20–23

Orange circle reads "October Captured, Days 20-23" over photos. Includes "It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" cover.

Throughout the month of October I will be creating a 6x8 album celebrating the fall season in Affinity Publisher for iPad. The photos + stories in this "October Captured" album will follow the prompts from my Photo-A-Day Idea sheet. You can download the idea sheet in this blog post. These pages will be simple, using the October Captured book template and October Captured Digital Kit I created for students enrolled in the S.L.A.P. Masterclass.

I'm still playing catch up in my October Captured Album and I am finding October is a fun mix of traditions + nostalgia + creating content. From watching a Halloween classic to rediscovering a favorite folk artist, these stories remind me how much I love this season. Even amidst busy days preparing for Ali’s Side by Side Product Play Class, I still found joy in documenting these little moments!

October 20 | Photo Prompt: A Family Tradition

DVD cover of "It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" on a wooden table with a small pumpkin decoration and an LED candle.

Some things never change—and It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown is one of them! Chris and I make it a point every year to watch this Halloween favorite (sometimes more than once). The sound of Vince Guaraldi’s “Linus and Lucy” piano tune just screams "fall" to us. We still laugh at Snoopy’s antics and still think Lucy is bossy. The Peanuts gang will always have a special place in my heart—I used to draw them, pretty accurately when I was in middle school. One of these days, I might just try drawing them again!

Master Page and number sticker is from the October Captured Publisher Template and Digital Kit from the Scrapbook Like a Pro with Affinity Publisher for iPad Masterclass. I just noticed that the Number 20 sticker is slightly off center....I need to change that!

October 21 | Photo Prompt: Something Spooky (scary or cute)

Vintage Halloween skeleton with polka dot mask, sitting on driftwood. Black and white spiral lollipop on orange background. Text: 21.

A few years ago, I picked up a set of paper pulp Halloween ornaments from a little home décor shop in Fredericksburg, Virginia. I loved their vintage charm, but had forgotten the artist’s name—until recently, when I used Google Lens and discovered they were created by Bethany Lowe! It turns out her work is quite collectible. I adore her ability to capture that nostalgic Halloween vibe in every piece. My little skeleton remains one of my favorite “spooky but cute” decorations!

The page is actually a Master Page, but I did alter it from the original to suit my needs! I just love creating pages digitally!

Below is what the pages look like side-by-side:

October 22 | Photo Prompt: Keeping In Touch

A smiling couple outdoors in autumn. Text: "AUTUMN splendor 22" and a note about their weekend and apple picking. Trees in the background.

It always makes me smile when Dustin and Becca send photos of their adventures. They recently spent the weekend in Charlottesville and went apple picking—a fall tradition I’ve always loved. Hearing about their day reminded me of picking apples with my grandmother when I was young. Maybe it’s time I plan a trip to go again!

The "Autumn Splendor" word art with branch is part of the Master Page. I just love the way this turned out. Three cheers for white space!

October 23 | Photo Prompt: Prepare

Two circular designs on a starry background. One reads "just us" with a red scalloped edge. The other has day 23 text about class prep.

Last week was all about putting finishing touches on my projects for Ali’s Side by Side Product Play class. I'm so happy with the way everything turned out and I can’t wait for the class to go live on November 4th and see what the other contributors have created. It’s always inspiring to see how everyone brings their own creative spark to the December Daily!

The layout was a Master Page, but altered. The sprinkling of stars in the background is from my own digital stash.

Below are days 22 and 23 side by side:

A couple smiles outdoors in an autumn setting. Text reads "AUTUMN splendor" with entries for days 22 and 23 discussing activities and preparations.

I'll be back tomorrow with Days 24-27. Thank you so much for stopping by! Let me know if you have any questions!
