October Captured: Days 29-31

Collage with "October Captured Days 24-28" text on an orange circle. Background shows a smiling woman with a dog, and various documents.

Throughout the month of October I will be creating a 6x8 album celebrating the fall season in Affinity Publisher for iPad. The photos + stories in this "October Captured" album will follow the prompts from my Photo-A-Day Idea sheet. You can download the idea sheet in this blog post. These pages will be simple, using the October Captured book template and October Captured Digital Kit I created for students enrolled in the S.L.A.P. Masterclass.

And just like that, we’ve reached the end of October Captured! What a wonderful month it’s been—filled with little moments, creative projects, and seasonal traditions that made this time of year so special. These last few days brought together color, creativity, and a little Halloween magic to close out the month perfectly.

October 29 | Photo Prompt: Something Wet

Watercolor palette with various colors, mostly pinks and blues, on a light background. Text: "29 October" and a description about a class.

Instead of following the original “Something Sparkly” prompt, I decided to go with “Something Wet.” I recently enrolled in the Willa Wanders Watercolor for Relaxation class and have been soaking up all the knowledge (pun intended!). I haven’t even started painting yet, but I’ve already learned so much about watercolor paper quality, pigments, and paints. Today’s focus was on filling palettes with fresh color straight from the tubes and making washes in the wells. Next up—color mixing! I can’t wait to dive in and get those brushes moving.

A white rectangle, lowered to 50% opacity was added to the Master Page for journaling.

October 30 | Photo Prompt: Halloween Prep

Carved pumpkin with a scary face glows in a dim setting. Text on right discusses Halloween prep, planning, and carving details.

We never carve our pumpkin too early—Florida heat and humidity would have it growing mold before Halloween even arrived! Chris wanted something a little spooky this year, so he cleaned out the pumpkin, and I searched the web for scary, but simple face to carve.

I didn't really use a Master Page on this layout. I added a vertical photo frame, a text box and a few stickers from the October Captured Kit.

Below are the pages side-by-side in my album:

October 31 | Photo Prompt: Happy Halloween

Hands crafting clay ornaments next to a red DAS clay package on a table. Includes circular and square designs. Text about an art class project.

Ryley, Alexa, and Rip joined us to hand out candy this year, and we couldn’t have been happier! Ry and Lex brought full-size candy bars (always a hit!), and I loved watching Rip soak up all the attention. By 8 p.m., we were out of candy and enjoying a cozy dinner of Swiss Chard + Sausage Stew on the patio. It was such a fun, family-filled night and the perfect way to end this creative, joy-filled month.

October Captured has reminded me how meaningful it is to pause, document, and celebrate the everyday. Thanks for following along this month.

Many have messaged me and asked if I was going to do a Gratitude Album in November. I am not. I will be focusing on December Daily and prepping a kit for the new session of S.W.A.P. Masterclass that will open for enrollment in December and go live in January!
