Documenting December: Story 1 of my 2024 December Daily Album + Mini Tutorial

Stylized text reads "Documenting December twenty-four" and "STORY 1" with a star-topped tree on the left. Beige and white background.

Welcome back to Documenting December—my Christmas in July blog series where I’m sharing one story a day from my completed 2024 December Daily album. Each post offers a peek at my digital pages created in Affinity Publisher for iPad, along with tips, techniques, and creative encouragement for finishing your own album.

I’ve also included a link to the corresponding post on Ali Edwards’ blog. I encourage you to open it in a separate window so you can see how my digital pages were inspired by the physical versions she shared.

December Daily Story One: Jingle Santa

Here is the link to the corresponding post on Ali's blog that was inspiration for these pages:

Green and gold "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas" text with a white-bearded Santa decoration, adorned with bells, hangs nearby.

I can’t fully replicate the way Ali flipped the banners on her page, but I had a blast creating a digital version of the paper banners! Be sure to watch the video tutorial posted below where I demonstrate how I did this.

If you are looking at Ali's page, you will notice that she used a dot pattern stamp and embossed it with gold embossing powder. To reflect that techinque on my page, I created my own "embossed" gold dot paper. I found a dotted transparent overlay in my stash of digital supplies (I am not sure if it was from Ali or not) and clipped a piece of gold glitter paper to it. Voila! It looks like a pretty good dup!

Green and gold banners with "BEGINNING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE CHRISTMAS." Number "01" in gold over polka dots, text about a wreath. Festive mood.

I used the December Daily 2024 Digital 4x6 Alpha and Numbers Stamp Set for the "01." I clipped a piece of gold foil texture I have from my own stash to the numbers and then added a 3D Effect to it for dimension.

The "vellum" under the text box is simply a white rectangle with its opacity lowered and a drop shadow.
