Welcome back to Documenting December—my Christmas in July blog series where I’m sharing one story a day from my completed 2024 December Daily album. Each post offers a peek at my digital pages created in Affinity Publisher for iPad, along with tips, techniques, and creative encouragement for finishing your own album.
I’ve also included a link to the corresponding post(s) on Ali Edwards’ blog. I encourage you to open it in a separate window so you can see how my digital pages were inspired by the physical versions she shared.
December Daily Story 16: Beach Baby
Here is a link to the post on Ali's blog that inspired this spread: Ali's Story 16
Today’s little story from our trip to Saint Augustine is all about a morning walk on the beach. If you scan the QR code on the page, you’ll catch a glimpse of the sea foam dancing along the shore—and of Zoe running around in circles like a puppy. She had so much energy that morning! Such fun memories of our girl.
This spread had me bouncing between Affinity Publisher and the Photo Persona quite a bit! I followed Ali’s lead and used the adorable 6x8 gingerbread pattern transparency for the left side of my layout (and again on the right, but with the opacity lowered to 25%). In her physical album, Ali turned this page into a shaker pocket filled with sequins—something I couldn’t do digitally, of course—but I still think the scattered gingerbread men give the same feeling of movement.

To build the title block, I created a green rounded rectangle using the shape tool and cut out two half circles from the sides in the Photo Persona. I added some white stitching using one of Katie Pertiet’s stitch brushes. The digital puffy letters and number stickers are tucked into those little half-circle notches, while the title letters are from the 4x6 digital Alpha + Numbers Stamp Set.

The photo I used had the perfect bit of negative space for a QR code that links to a short video of Zoe playing on the beach. I placed a little white bow above the code to keep it cute but functional—any lower and it would have blocked the link from working properly. Just something to keep in mind if you try this technique in your own album!
And those little gingerbread girl stamps? So cute! I also pulled in some heart-shaped word art stamps from past kits in my stash—they were too perfect not to use.

Thanks for stopping by today! If you have any questions about the process or the products I used, feel free to reach out. I’m always happy to help!
