Documenting December: Story 2 of my 2024 December Daily Album + Mini Tutorial

Welcome back to Documenting December—my Christmas in July blog series where I’m sharing one story a day from my completed 2024 December Daily album. Each post offers a peek at my digital pages created in Affinity Publisher for iPad, along with tips, techniques, and creative encouragement for finishing your own album.

I’ve also included a link to the corresponding post on Ali Edwards’ blog. I encourage you to open it in a separate window so you can see how my digital pages were inspired by the physical versions she shared.

December Daily Story Two: 'Tis The Season

Here is the link to the post on Ali's blog that was the inspiration for these pages:

Green and gold "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas" text with a white-bearded Santa decoration, adorned with bells, hangs nearby.

It's so much fun to experiment with the digital versions of the December Daily products. For the physical products that were part of her interactive design, I looked for different ways I could creatively represent those elements.

Red mug with foam, red patterned slippers, and pyjama-clad legs on a blue floor. Festive star with "2" and green-red border accent.

Ali used the Vellum Die Cut Wreath from the Main Kit, along with a wood veneer star on top of the fold out pockets. I represented those elements in the number cluster at the bottom left corner of the full page photo.

The little branch with red berry is actually the Wreath Digital Stamp from the December Daily 2024 Digitals: 6x8 Holiday Icons Stamp Set. I added the wreath stamp to my page and then accessed the Affinity Photo Persona through Publisher. Once in Affinity Photo, I used the Eraser Tool to erase three of the branches and berries from the stamp so I was just left with one. The stamp itself is a black PNG, so I recolored the branch green, and the berry red. After it was recolored, I duplicated the layer several times, rotating each branch so it fit nicely between the angles of the star.

After I was finished in the Photo Persona, I switched back to Publisher drew a star with the Shape Tool and colored it red. Then I clipped a wood veneer photo texture I have in my stash to the star and played around with blending modes until I got the desired effect I wanted. A 3D Effect was added to both the wood star and the number sticker to add dimension.

Holiday card with a coffee cup by the beach, featuring "Tis the Season" text. Green and red design with Christmas message about cold weather.

The green die cut is from teh December Daily 2024 Digital Die Cut Paper Inserts kit. Of course I couldn’t make a fold-out pocket card like she did, but I think I did a pretty good job at adding a single pocket card! Watch the short video tutorial where I demo how I did it!

Thank you so much for taking the time to read about Story 2! Please let me know if you have any questions!
