Welcome back to Documenting December—my Christmas in July blog series where I’m sharing one story a day from my completed 2024 December Daily album. Each post offers a peek at my digital pages created in Affinity Publisher for iPad, along with tips, techniques, and creative encouragement for finishing your own album.

December Daily Story Six: NOLA

There’s no tutorial today—just a simple layout that didn’t need any fancy digital techniques to bring it all together! Even though I didn't take the photo, I love it so much I had to include it in my album.
This is our youngest son, Ryley, and his then girlfriend (now fiancée!) Alexa. They attended eight weddings in 2024, and this snapshot was taken at the final one—during the reception in New Orleans. Just look at those flowers!
While my layout doesn’t exactly replicate Ali’s, you might notice a few nods to her design. She placed a cardstock label directly on top of her full-page photo. Since I didn’t have enough photos to fill a page of 2x2 pockets like she did, I opted to let the photo of Ryley and Alexa stand alone and layered the journaling tag on top of the patterned paper instead. I used the Dove 10x8 digital paper from the Main Digital Kit as my background. It wasn’t a pattern I was initially drawn to, but it turned out to be the perfect match for this photo.
I used the digital cardstock tag for my journaling. I created the star using the Shape Tool in Affinity Publisher. I then added a gold foil texture to the star along with a 3D Effect for dimension. I recorded a tutorial of how I add texture to my embellishments in Story 4. The letter stickers are from the December Daily 2024 Digital Puffy Alpha Sticker Sheet and the number 6 is from the December Daily 2024 Digital Gold Foil Number Sticker Sheets. for the title. That little red scalloped square tucked under the journaling tag? It’s from the December daily 2024 Digital Scalloped Plastic Squares pack.
Sometimes, simple really is best.
